Asian Weeks
@ Klubovna

until June 2024

What happened between August 6th and 9th? Who lost immortality because of it? How is Halloween celebrated in Asia? Who was harmed by the cultural revolution in the Asian bistro? These and a few other questions are posed by André Allin in the main section of the oil exhibition near the stove, which is the factual section of the exposition.

CULTURAL REVOLUTION IN THE ASIAN BISTRO
The first encounter with the issue of Asian weeks dates back to the author's oil period around the year of Zozz. The interior scenery is dominated by a contemplating Asian figure as a ball, served by two nudes. Is he so pensive, or is he just ostentatiously ignoring that his favorite dish is landing on the table? We don't see the man's face, nor do we know if he is sad or happy. What is he thinking about? Shouldn't he have chosen a different meal?

FIFTIETHS
Or is he thinking about the fact that today the popart character Hello Kitty, which he has on his pajamas, celebrates 50 years? And next to her, her creator Shintaro Tsuji (92 years old). What gave rise to one of the mass phenomena of kawaii, which has circled all around the world? How is it possible that this celebration of cuteness arose in a culture that is not lacking in cruelty? Or perhaps the emperor's old clothes are to blame?

EMPEROR'S OLD CLOTHES
Emperor Hirohito contributed to the development of world history in the 20th century from his chrysanthemum throne between 1926 and 1989. His milestone in life was not the first, but the second atomic bomb (Nagasaki, August 9, 1945), which forced the emperor, and thus Japan, to abandon the twisted ideal of Nazism. In his face, we read the emperor's astonishment at the newly acquired mortality (January 1, 1946). The chrysanthemum decor on a pink background complements the fading inner flame of the emperor's immortality. Where have the old traditions gone?

HALLOWEEN EDO
A humorous allegory of a Day of the Dead costume from the Edo period (1603–1867), which connects the world between the dead and the undead. The figure wrapped in a silk cloak holds a candy skull in its right hand. The clever cut of the cloak does not scare, but with its smile on the belly, it encourages the celebration of death as a part of life.

BANNERS
The quartet of oils with historical milestones is complemented by a mythical wall with digital banners in CMYK tones. Namely from left to right: The Last Samurai from Kamigawa Prefecture; Kami of the Waterfall with yokai Jōrogumo and the titan from Attack on Titan; Dragon - a symbol since 2024; Madame Hiroshima - an allegory of the transformation of old Japan into the new through the perception of emotions.

#PHILOSOPUSSIES
Under the eloquent expression known as ahegao, there is a QR code through which we can peek into an Instagram collection of naked women, figurative studies with wise quotes.

MOVIE WINDOWS
In cooperation with Klubovna, a dynamic bar section of the exhibition dedicated to movie windows from the regular Wednesday Film Club under the baton of Aleš Matějka, aka bíťák Aleš, was created. The Film Club explores various themes (robots, London, etc.). The material and technique vary, but yeast and ink dominate. Thanks to the ongoing collaboration with the author, the collection of movie windows is constantly expanding.
